NALC Stamps Out Hunger In South Florida!

Randy Miller - 05/25/2007

Saturday, May 12th was an exciting, successful day for the 15th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive in South Florida. The incredible response from the South Florida community for this event has lead to a carry-over of food sorting and weighing. As of the end of the day Monday, May 14th, food was still coming into Daily Bread Food Bank and the current totals are quite staggering!

Miami-Dade County has donated over 341,559 pounds of food with Broward County adding over 282,596 pounds. Palm Beach County has generated a whopping 400,137 pounds of food donated bringing this year's total to over 1,024,292 pounds of food collected in South Florida! This marks the second year in a row South Florida residents have stepped up to the challenge of donating over one million pounds of food! Of the 1,024,292 pounds, NALC Union 1071 collected 795,728 pounds and Union 1690 collected 228,564 pounds. These incredible totals are true testament to the massive size of the event and to the effort our local letter carriers must give to accommodate the quantity of food.

Daily Bread Food Bank would like to thank the South Florida letter carriers and NALC branches 1071 and 1690 for their strong dedication and hard work in organizing this massive event. We are incredibly thankful for their continued efforts in the fight against hunger. Daily Bread Food Bank would also like to thank the sponsors and the South Florida communities for making this year's food drive an overwhelming success! With over a million pounds of food collected locally everyone who donated to the success of this drive should know that their gift will benefit our community's hungry people. This overwhelming generosity and support proves that South Florida takes care of its residents in need.
