Fight hunger by starting a food drive at school!
Starting a food drive at school is easy! Talk to your teacher and tell her you would like to help your community by holding a food drive. After you get permission to hold your food drive you can then get your classmates involved. Ask your friends to help you make signs announcing the food drive and when it will take place. Then, bring in boxes and watch them fill up with donations! When your food drive is over, ask your parents to help you bring the food to Daily Bread Food Bank and they will distribute the food to hungry people for you!

On Halloween dress as Hunger Hero!
When people ask you about your costume, tell them that you are Hunger Hero and that you fight hunger! This can be a fun way to spread hunger awareness and encourage people who give you candy to also give some food to the food bank.

Hunger Hero's Mail Call

A Letter from Adrian Rendon
I like how you fight hunger in Florida I appreciate that a lot. I enjoy going with my dad and donating cans to your company so you could give the food to the hungry. My dad will always ask me all the time to go with him to have fundraisers by receiving cans and foods from other people. My favorite time is when we went early to the dolphin's stadium and received cans from other people and then after that we went on the field to watch a game. Your company does a good thing to fight hunger in Florida. I thank you for doing that for our country. Thanks to your company hunger is reducing in Florida.
Sincerely,
Adrian Rendon

Hunger Hero: Isabella Greene
Inspired by talk show host Ellen Degeneres' actions to help America's Second Harvest feed hungry people; 8 year-old Isabella Greene decided to take her own kind of action. She hand made her own collection bins for money donations and had her mother drive her around to local businesses. Isabella introduced herself to numerous managers and business owners and explained her quest to help feed hungry people. She asked permission to leave her containers at their businesses for 2 weeks to collect donations. Many were more than eager to help out including her own school which placed a container in the front office. Isabella's money drive resulted in $240.00 for America's Second Harvest which supports food banks like Daily Bread Food Bank. Hunger Hero would like to salute Isabella Greene for taking initiative in the fight against hunger and helping a lot of people in need.

Hunger Hero: Liam Asayag
On March 19th, Liam Asayag, a Kindergartner at University School at Nova, turned 6 years old. For his birthday, Liam wanted to do something special for needy children in South Florida. So, instead of asking for birthday presents this incredibly thoughtful boy asked his friends to help end childhood hunger with a donation to Daily Bread Food Bank. In all, Liam's request to his friends raised $554.00 which can provide 3,324 meals for hungry children in South Florida! In addition to this great donation, Liam took a tour of Daily Bread Food Bank's Miami facility to learn about the inner-workings of feeding the needy. With this added knowledge, Liam will be able to spread hunger awareness to his family and friends. Hunger Hero and everyone at Daily Bread Food Bank would like to thank Liam for his involvement in the fight against childhood hunger. He is an inspiration to everyone!

Hunger Hero: Stephanie Behar
Last February, Stephanie Behar, Daughter of Jennifer Behar of Jennifer's Homemade, celebrated her 9th birthday at Daily Bread Food Bank. At first glance, a food bank may seem like an unusual location for a 9 year-old to host a birthday party; however, Stephanie is not your average 9 year-old. She is a thoughtful girl who understands the importance of community service and she wanted to use her birthday celebration as a way to raise hunger awareness in her friends and classmates. To raise awareness, Stephanie's birthday party included a Hunger 101 class featuring a Hopscotch answer game and a food sorting session. In addition each party participant pledged to continue to help end child hunger by placing a permanent hand print on Daily Bread's "I Can" Help End Child Hunger board. The event concluded with pizza and cake and each child received an "I Can" coloring book and wristband. Stephanie Behar's birthday party was a huge success as it raised hunger awareness in a fun, festive way!
